Coke vs Coffee

I've stopped drinking Coke for a few reasons: acidity, carbonation and sugar. Of course I can't go without caffeine so I started drinking coffee instead. Here's a general comparison (numbers extrapolated from Tim Horton's web site) between a 600ml bottle of Coke and a large double cream double sugar coffee from Tim's:

  Coke Coffee
Serving Size (oz) 20 10
Caffeine (mg) 61 106
Fat (g) 0 8
Calories (kcals) 243 156*

* black coffee contains 0 calories so I just doubled the single single number

Coffee packs a better punch, has less sugar but more fat and less overall calories. Both probably stain your teeth equally well though ... and let's not forget about coffee breath. Maybe I should move on to caffeine mints. heh

If you give me the data, I'll add a green tea column. ;)

Did you know Pepsi Light and Coca Cola Light have ZERO calories!

They also taste like crap and have too much carbonation. What's your point? :)

Green Tea will have 20 mg of Caffeine per 8 oz of water.
Black Tea however has 40 mg, but can range from 25-110 mg of caffeine (per tea bag in 8 oz of water) depending on the tea.

Pretty much all Teas have 0 Fat or Calories, unless you add milk or sugar.

I still have avoided the adults-drink-coffee phase. Lately, I have been drinking hot chocolat at work - more for nourishment then to stay awake. I will admit that this month has been very hard on me (riight, boo hoo) - and I do not always remember to bring a lunch...

see... I have a different problem:

I just like the taste of coffee.

Caffeine doesn't really have a big affect on me, or I would drink de-caf, but the fat and Calories can definitely add up. So I'm screwed. I do tend to drink a ton of water during the day, so I really don't think 1-3 cups of coffee during the day at THAT bad...

And coffee breath is annoying, so I bought a travel-sized toothbrush and toothpaste to counter-act the problem :)

Nice table! But you don't list the vitamin content for either drink... :P
